Driving Excellence in Higher Education: PROFFORMANCE+ Retrospective

The PROFFORMANCE+ project has been a transformative initiative aiming at enhancing the quality of teaching and learning across the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). By empowering educators and institutions with evidence-based tools, collaborative networks, and innovative practices, the project advances the EHEA’s core priorities and strengthens competitiveness in higher education.

From Vision to Impact: What PROFFORMANCE+ Achieved

The main objective of the project is to facilitate transformation and increase the competitiveness of higher education in the EHEA and the consortium partners’ countries by enhancing the quality of teaching and learning through supporting the performance of higher education teachers, in line with the main EHEA priorities.

Who Benefited? Target Groups and Their Gains

National authorities, policymakers, professional organisations, higher education institutions, institutional leaders, teachers, and students all received practice-oriented support to enhance the quality of teaching and learning.

They gained:

  • A shared understanding of quality teaching and learning
  • Evidence-based guidance for informed decision-making
  • Opportunities for collaboration and peer learning

This foundation enables more effective institutional development and fosters inclusive, engaging learning environments across the EHEA.

Building a European Community of Practice

  • 15 partners across 10 countries, supported by 20 international experts
  • 80+ higher education institutions joined the International Institutional Ambassador Network with 19 certified IPAs.
  • 1500+ teachers became part of the PROFFORMANCE community
  • 1000+ educators attended the PROFFORMANCE webinars, with 100-150 participants per session
  • 161 new applicants, 15 awardees and 6 national prizes in the 2024/25 Higher Education Teacher Award Call

Tools That Make a Difference: The PROFFORMANCE Toolkit

  • Short Courses: 16 modules developed covering 4 thematic areas and 4 EHEA priorities
  • Assessment Tool: 150 competence statements across 6 thematic areas, 4 horizontal priorities, and 3 perspectives (self, peer, student)
  • Teaching Excellence Database: 286 international good practices
  • Course Portal: Collection of 30 freely available online courses aligned with EHEA priorities

Taking the Stage: International Presence and Recognition

  • Ambassador roadshow: PROFFORMANCE featured in 30+ events across 13 countries and 15 cities

  • 20 international experts, 4 working groups, and 8 reviewers
  • 4x2-day peer learning activities to develop new statements and courses
  • Events included webinars, ambassador meetings, launch events, and the final events - Teacher Power: Policy in action and PROFFORMANCE Simulation Game
