Expert Consultations in the INTERNATIONALIZATION Module – 4, 8 and 11 May 2026
The INTERNATIONALIZATION phase formed the second module of the PROFFORMANCE Upgrade Your Course PLA, focusing on the integration of international and intercultural dimensions into course design and teaching practice. Through a series of expert consultations led by Irine Darchia, head of the development working group for internationalization, participants explored how internationalization can be embedded in their own courses in a purposeful and inclusive way, supporting the development of globally aware and culturally competent learners.
Session on 4 May – introducing internationalization in course development
The first consultation provided an overview of the Internationalization Course Development Module and introduced participants to the key principles of integrating international perspectives into higher education curricula.
The programme included:
- Introduction to the Internationalization module
- Expert presentation by Irine Darchia
- Interactive exercise
- Learning materials, assignments, and peer-learning activities
Participants also had the opportunity to exchange ideas through an interactive Menti discussion, sharing their own experiences and perspectives on internationalization in teaching and learning.
Session on 8 May – Internationalization at Home
The second expert meeting focused on the concept of Internationalization at Home, emphasizing that international and intercultural learning opportunities can be created even without physical mobility.
Key topics included:
- Internationalization at Home approaches
- Practical strategies for embedding global perspectives into teaching
- A disciplinary case study in physics demonstrating the application of internationalization principles in course design
The session encouraged participants to reflect on how their own subjects could benefit from a more international and intercultural approach.
Session on 11 May – inclusion, quality, and artificial intelligence
The final consultation expanded the discussion to several emerging themes that shape contemporary higher education. Irine Darchia provided additional resources and inspirational materials to support participants in completing their assignments and further developing their courses.
The topics covered included:
- Internationalisation for Inclusive, Culturally Responsive, Globally Connected Learning Environments
- Internationalization and Quality Enhancement
- Internationalization and Artificial Intelligence
Learning through peer exchange
A central element of the module was the exchange of experiences among participants. The expert consultations, interactive activities, and peer discussions created opportunities for educators to learn from one another and to explore practical ways of embedding internationalization into their own educational contexts.
By the end of the module, participants had developed a deeper understanding of how internationalization can enhance the quality of teaching and learning, foster inclusion, and prepare students for an increasingly interconnected global environment.
