Bridging Policy and Practice: The PROFFORMANCE Ambassador Roadshow Across Europe

The PROFFORMANCE Ambassador Roadshow has played a key role in promoting the PROFFORMANCE Assessment Toolkit, a free, three-dimensional framework designed to support higher education (HE) teachers and institutions in assessing and developing teaching competencies to enhance the quality of education. Alongside the toolkit, the International Teaching Excellence Database and the Course Portal offer valuable resources to foster continuous improvement in higher education with alignment of EHEA policy goals.

Between 2022 and 2025, the Roadshow delivered 30 events across 13 countries and 15 cities, aiming to introduce the toolkit to a diverse audience and demonstrate its alignment with the priorities of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), including digitalization, internationalization, inclusion, and sustainability. The cities most actively involved were Budapest with eight events and Prague with five, followed by Brussels, Bucharest, Debrecen, and Tbilisi, each hosting two events. The Roadshow combined both international and national outreach, with around 20 events organized at the international level—often in cooperation with BFUG, ENQA, or EURASHE—and about 10 events focusing on specific national higher education contexts. A variety of formats were employed to ensure accessibility and engagement, including 23 in-person, 5 online, and 2 hybrid sessions.

Throughout the Roadshow, 30 presentations introduced the toolkit’s core features and usability, while 8 workshops offered hands-on demonstrations, allowing participants to explore its practical applications. These sessions highlighted the toolkit’s flexibility and its potential to support both internal and external quality assurance processes. Participants consistently emphasized how the tool addresses the EHEA’s priorities. It was praised for fostering educators' digital skills across diverse teaching environments—be it in-person, online, or blended—and for being available in seven languages, making it accessible to a broad international audience. The toolkit also offers valuable guidance for teaching in multicultural settings, supporting institutions that aim to strengthen their international collaboration. Its focus on inclusion provides resources for developing universally designed curricula to meet diverse needs of students. Additionally, sustainability has emerged as a growing theme, with the toolkit encouraging educators to integrate environmental and social issues into their teaching practices.

The Roadshow further extended PROFFORMANCE’s outreach by presenting the toolkit at several prestigious conferences, including events organized by the BFUG Teaching & Learning Working Group, EURASHE, and the ENQA Members’ Forum, as well as at major international gatherings like NAFSA and EAIE. These appearances highlighted the toolkit’s relevance to European policy objectives and existing quality assurance frameworks, reinforcing its value for policymakers, quality assurance professionals, and academic institutions. The project’s impact was further recognized when PROFFORMANCE received the EURASHE 2023 PHE Star Award for Digitalization, acknowledging its contribution to advancing digital transition in higher education.

The success of the PROFFORMANCE Ambassador Roadshow reflects a strong commitment to supporting quality teaching in higher education. Through its network of PROFFORMANCE Ambassadors—experts and project partners—the initiative has facilitated meaningful dialogue and practical engagement, helping institutions across Europe to adopt evidence-based approaches that enhance teaching quality and align with broader European priorities.
